Type II Fun
We had a pretty disastrous camping trip and I was not on speaking terms with Yuudai after we got back. It didn't seem like he wanted to talk either, so we were on the same page in that regard. I was honestly ready to go to bed for the night until Yuudai stopped me and made me sit on the couch instead. I really was not in the mood for anything after only getting two hours of bad sleep the night before, but I could tell he wanted to talk.
"We promised each other we wouldn't go to bed angry," he reminded me.
"Yuudai, do we really have to do this now?" I pleaded. "I don't think I can keep myself awake for this."
"I'll keep it short," he promised.
"Fine," I sighed. I did remember agreeing to this.
"Look, I know that trip could've been a little better—"
"A little?" was my rebuttal. "Yuudai, you almost got mauled by a bear."
"Okay, so there was a little hiccup—"
I was offended by that statement. "Clearly, your sense of danger is far more broken than mine."
"We're alive, aren't we?" he chuckled. "Look, I know it was tough with the tent catching on fire and the rain and the bear..."
"I mean, I am to blame for the tent," I admitted. "I didn't realize how far the embers would spread..."
"I also never realized they could catch fire that easily," he mused. "I mean, I thought we were advanced enough as a species to make fireproof camping tents, right?"
"You were also particularly bad at fishing," I snorted. "Didn't you used to go fishing with a kouhai of yours?"
"Ah, but you were the one who burnt what I did manage to catch," he pointed out.
"I think we had more important things to worry about—like the bear?" I reminded him.
I couldn't help but laugh. I wasn't sure why this was so amusing when the trip was nothing but horrible. Yuudai couldn't hold himself back either and we were soon laughing with each other until my sides started to hurt. It took a while for us to calm down enough to continue the conversation, but not before Yuudai kissed me beforehand.
"I'm sorry, ," he finally said.
"I'm sorry too, Yuudai," I reciprocated. "That was the worst thing I ever went through, but..."
"'But,' what?"
"I'd do it again," I realized. "Minus the bear, of course."
There was this soft expression on Yuudai's face that I hadn't quite seen before. It was as if he was both relieved and excited for the next time. "Tomorrow, then?"
"Are you kidding me? I'm not waking up for the next 20 hours," I yawned as my eyes started to shut on their own.
I felt Yuudai pick me up and carry me to bed. Despite how thin he looked, he was rather strong. "Maybe the day after, then."
